FERPA

The New Milford Public Schools District is committed to protecting privacy and developing technology that gives students the most powerful and safe educational experience. The District complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which has a goal of protecting a student's educational records. Although FERPA regulations apply only to students, the District is equally committed to protecting the privacy of all data; including staff and administration.

Connecticut Public Act 16-189

In order to comply with Connecticut State Law, Public Act 16-189, the New Milford Public Schools is required to enter into written agreements with any contractors or operators who are exposed to or have access to student data.

Contractors or operators with access to student data are also required to notify the New Milford Public Schools if a data breach is discovered. Depending on the type of student data acquired, exposed or disclosed in the breach, the district must be notified within a specified time period. In turn, the New Milford Public Schools is required to electronically notify both the students and parents of students who's data was involved in the breach within forty-eight hours.
