EXCEL Inclusive Preschool Program
NMPS ANNOUNCEMENT
The EXCEL Preschool Programs at Hill and Plain and Northville Elementary School are looking for Community Friends for their afternoon EXCEL 3-year old classroom.
3-YEAR OLD BOYS AND GIRLS, PM SESSION, MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY from 12:30-3:15. Child needs to be 3 years of age before September 1, 2024.
New Milford Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the EXCEL (Experiential Center for Early Learning) 3-YEAR OLD Preschool Program at Hill and Plain and Northville Elementary School. This program provides services for children with special needs and their typical peers (Community Friends) together in one setting. While your child would be receiving the benefit of a high-quality preschool program he/she is also serving as a role model community friend for the special needs children. Therefore, it is important that the children who participate in the program demonstrate age appropriate skills. In particular, your child should possess strong language skills and social skills to encourage interaction among the children. GENERAL INFORMATION
The EXCEL program, Experiential Center for Early Learning,
provides children with a high-quality, developmentally appropriate
preschool program run by professional educators. The EXCEL program is
an inclusive preschool that provides services for children with special
needs and their typical peers together within one setting. Enrollment of
students with special needs is done through a Planning and Placement
Team process.
Inclusion students, a.k.a. “community friends,” are enrolled through an application and lottery system. Our community friends receive the benefit of a high-quality preschool program while serving as role models for the children with special needs. Therefore, it is important that the children who participate in the program as community friends demonstrate the following:
1. Age appropriate skills.
2. Possess strong English language skills and social skills to encourage
interaction among all children.
3. Be toilet trained and demonstrate independence in the bathroom.
